Overview: Mount Takao, located in Hachioji City, Tokyo, is renowned for its beautiful natural scenery throughout the seasons. It is easily accessible, just an hour by train from central Tokyo, making it a popular destination for hikers and nature lovers. Mount Takao has also received a three-star rating in the Michelin Green Guide Japan, attracting many visitors from around the world.
Spring in Mount Takao
Spring on Mount Takao offers fresh greenery and blooming flowers. The mountain turns pink with cherry blossoms in full bloom, attracting many visitors for hanami (cherry blossom viewing). Additionally, mountain azaleas and kerria flowers add vibrant colors to the hiking trails.
Summer in Mount Takao
Summer on Mount Takao features lush greenery and cool shaded hiking paths. Trails along rivers and waterfalls are particularly popular, offering a refreshing escape from the summer heat. Insect watching and bird watching are also enjoyable activities during this season.
Autumn in Mount Takao
Autumn on Mount Takao is highlighted by stunning autumn foliage. The best time to visit is from mid to late November, when the mountain is beautifully colored with maple and ginkgo leaves. The vibrant autumn colors transform the landscape, attracting many tourists for leaf peeping.
Winter in Mount Takao
Winter on Mount Takao offers clear air and serene nature. Even in winter, the relatively mild climate makes it a perfect time for hiking with distant views. On snowy days, trekking through the snow-covered landscape is a special experience. Additionally, the New Year’s visit to Takao-san Yakuo-in Temple is popular.
